On Rosh Hodesh Elul, four women were arrested and detained by police for over three hours because each wore a tallit during worship at the Kotel. The four are being investigated for disturbing the public peace according to regulation 201A4 and offending the feelings of others according to regulation 287A of the Israeli legal code. If charged, these four women will stand trial. The punishment for violating regulation 201A4 is six months in prison; regulation 287A up to two years in prison.
Israeli police warned Women of the Wall that future arrestees will be held for twenty four hours in addition to being investigated.
