In Preparation for the Month of Elul, Selichot and the High Holidays, Women of the Wall will hold a Shofar Sounding Workshop for women. The workshop will provide participants with practical skills which will enable them to take on an active role in Selichot and Rosh Hodesh Elul prayer.
The workshop will be held at Park Hayarkon (Across from 62 Bnei Dan Street) on Monday, August 14th between 4:30pm-5:30pm. The workshop is free of charge.
No previous experience necessary. Shofars will be distributed among participants.
Workshop instructor is Stephen Beck, a saxophone player who holds a music degree and is an expert at teaching shofar.
Stephen Beck: “Anyone can succeed at shofar, because the technique is simple and can be mastered quickly and easily. Every participant will receive a shofar for practice. Women and girls are invited to come and experiment, and we will guide each and every one to success.”
WOW Chairperson Anat Hoffman: “For the past three decades, Women of the Wall have been listening to women and girls’ true aspirations to experience their Judaism without any mediators. We are working on realizing these goals by making various prayers and customs accessible to women and empowering them to take an active and meaningful role in religion.”
