December 2009
Scarsdale, NY
I want to let you know about an event we are holding at Shaarei Tikvah, a small Conservative shul in Scarsdale NY.
For the past year and a half a group of 35-40 women have been gathering twice a month to learn (we call it the Women’s Study Group). We have women in their 30’s and some in their 80’s and everything in between. This spring, those who choose, will have a Bat Mitzvah celebrating their learning. I and two other women lead the group.
At our gathering this morning (where coincidentally we were learning about the history of women and tefillin) we decided that we will all come together Wednesday evening at 6 pm in order to support WOW. We chose 6 pm because it is erev Rosh Chodesh and the Hebrew school starts their davening at that time. We are going to daven with them in the main sanctuary. Our rabbi, Dan Schweber, will explain to the students what happened in Jerusalem and why it is so important for us to show our support. We will take photos as you requested, documenting the solidarity. In addition to the Hebrew school students and Women’s Study Group members, we will publicize this to the entire Shaarei Tikvah community.
Thank you for alerting us to this international day of support for WOW. We look forward to the day when this kind of action is not necessary!
